Reverend Jesse Jackson Staying with
Families During Appalachian Bus Tour

During the “Reinvest in America: Put America Back to Work!” Appalachian Bus Tour, Rev. Jesse Jackson is spending two nights in the homes of families. On Sunday, June 6, Rev. Jackson stayed with Ed and Mary Yankovich. Ed Yankovich is president of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) District 2, which includes Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland, and Eastern Canada. He drove Rev. Jackson to his home in Uniontown, Pennsylvania where Jackson visited with the family and spent the night following the Pittsburgh rally.

Before returning home with Rev. Jackson Sunday night, Yankovich spoke about the importance of the bus tour and the quality of the leadership provided by Rev. Jackson and his allies in the labor movement.

“The tour helps bring to light the fact that many Americans didn’t take part in the prosperous times. The current climate has them facing an even grimmer reality of outsourced jobs and healthcare they can no longer afford,” said Yankovich.

Yankovich, 52, is a member of a third-generation coal mining immigrant family and was a miner for 14 years. He said he and his family were looking forward to having Rev. Jackson stay with them.

He said that it is important for people to understand that the issues Rev. Jackson is focusing on are the issues that are truly important to all Americans, particularly working men and women.
